Special moment with my girl

The other day, all of us was down with sickness. It was about noon time, when we’re supposed to have lunch. My wife were ill, and I don’t think she would be able to cook for the lunch, nor I would expect her to do so. Then this conversation took place:

The Red Matching

Yesterday, we went out as a family. I decided to bring the double stroller. My wife then notice that all our baby equipments were red!

We’re just marveled at the thing. The double stroller color was red. Our baby carrier was red color. And our baby bag also was red color. Two out of the three items were gifts from friends.

What is of value?

I was reading the book on the early years of education, where many experts talk about how best teaching up children to the best of their potential. I pick up a few gems of insight. Basically, children need a safe, healthy, environment & relationships.

Then i was reminded our dinner time conversation yesterday. My wife just shared how our little girl was accepted into BSF class. And she shared with me, the commitment of these helpers. From the age of 3 months, they dedicated time to read bible, quiet times, and memory verse. WOW!!

I wonder what a 3 months old could do such that she should get that much labor from adult. We never thought that as important for 3 months old baby.

How wrong I was 🙂

Children not only need healthy & stable relationship & environment. They also need first and foremost to know the Lord. There’s nobody more stable and loving than God. And we might be surprisedly wrong to assume that these little children cannot know God at such young age.

Above anything else, they’re God’s given, entrusted to our care. Our main responsibilities as parents besides to their physical and emotional needs, is their spiritual needs. And we must not rob that part from the God who give them to us.

My life is in Your Hands

This morning, i wake up and the children are still in bed. Thank God for a good quiet time. Here the passage for this morning:

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last. Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent.” And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, beating their breasts. (Luke 23:44-48)

Life is in the hands of God

This week is heavily marked with Mr Lee Kuan Yew death. All over the news, watsapp, and conversation are all around him. Today was his state funeral, and the emotion was seemingly high. This morning, as i attended the Church service, our senior pastor wrote an eulogy about him, we spent a minute in silent, and it was closed in prayer.

Best Compliment

This morning, it was probably the best compliment i’ve ever received. My colleague told my boss,”the best ever wedding vow she has ever heard…to love the wife as Christ loves the church”, and she pointed to me.

I didn’t remember i said that.

But that was a great compliment, from a person i well respected.

Take a little child seriously

Last Sunday, we’re waiting for taxi, and our girl likes to take the blue cab. So we asked her to pray. We could see she prayed earnestly. For long, we didn’t get the cab. I told myself, how come God fail to hear such earnest prayer of a little child?

Looking back, it was my mistake as a parent. I should guide my child to pray rightly. That not all we want, God is obliged to fulfil them. God is sovereign, and He could choose to answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, or ‘Wait’.

But God is amazing. When we lose hope (or rather me), and we decided to abandon the waiting, we took bus, and about to board a train. Then i spot a blue taxi waiting (no driver) on the side of the road. My wife and daughter came over. I told them we could wait awhile to see, coz i thought the driver either eat breakfast or had business in the toilet. True enough when a gentleman was out from the toilet, he’s the driver.

So God answered my girl prayer for the blue taxi that morning.

Subsequently, we got another blue taxi on our journey after attending service.

After lunch, again we’re looking for taxi, and the same as previous episodes, my girl prayed earnestly for blue taxi. This time round, we’re at taxi stand. And we’re no 2 in the queue. There came 2 taxi, blue & yellow. The first group of people, took the blue one, and we took the yellow one. Then and there, my girl cried out.

Lesson for parents, take your children prayer seriously. Sometimes God wants us to make the prayer to happen. I had two options actually. I could ask the people in front if they’re willing to swap the taxi (which i’m sure they won’t mind), or I ask the people behind me to get on first, while we’re waiting for the blue taxi (which i’m quite sure also that my girl won’t mind).

It’s a precious lesson as parent 🙂 I learn about wisdom that day.

The 2.5

My wife call it a rare occurrence, when our eldest girl hit 2.5 and our youngest girl hit 2.5. Only difference is that one in year and the other is in month.

In a few rare occurrences, both of them could nap together. Those are the times my wife would shout “Halelujah”. 2 days ago, both of them could sleep early during dinner time, till the next day breakfast time. That’s a double “Halelujah”.

But it didn’t come without a price. Two days ago, i didn’t receive any news from home. And i sensed something must be wrong. When i reached home, i found out the big girl is crying, and my wife was only able to say ,”i’m burnt out”. With that, i put the youngest one to sleep, the oldest one climb to her. In the next 30 minutes, the 3 of them fell a sleep. There i was alone, waiting for dinner, and the three other members were in their sleep.

Just want to thank God for balancing the bad and the good, the tiredness with the rest we need. It was the day i could sleep about 7 hours.

The Son makes you free

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin….” (John 8:34)

Oswald Chambers rightly wrote that we’re slave to anything we submit ourselves into. That’s including to ourselves. Maybe sounds strange. But if we always give in to whatever we want, then we’re enslaving ourselves to ourselves. Until the person truly repentant and give now the control to Jesus.

So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.  (v.36)

Only when we lose our lives for the sake of God, that we truly find what life is. Indeed, there’s no life outside God. And the only to enjoy the true life is to surrender ourselves to God. That’s where we have to choose either Jesus, or ourselves.

In memory of my late father

Yesterday, I met my new supervisor. Somehow, from our conversation, reminded me of my late father. And yeah, after all these years…somehow, i would still wish if he could remain alive today. I wish that i could be like any other children, or even adult, when his dad is around to talk and guide, even enjoying my daugthers.

I would remember then, how he had lived. How he work hard to ensure our family have all the good things. And how I wish that he could be less hard-working and live longer just to be with us.

I don’t mind less eating in restaurant, if he could still be alive today.
I don’t mind of the old house, if it meant he could still be alive today.
I don’t mind of less pocket money, and did not enjoy my favorite food in canteen, if it could make him work less harder and still be alive today.
And I don’t mind of us working harder as family, if it could help him to bear the burden alone.

Indeed, I think, what most important in life is who we are, and not what we can do.
After all said and done, we would exchange everything for the time we spend with our loved ones.
If it meant for us to live with less in order to have him more, I think none of us would complain.

Teach me Lord to treasure my life. I would not want to repeat the same with my wife and my children. Even as young as a little baby, she knows that to see the father is of a greater joy than all the plays.
