I was reading a sale pitch on using AI enabled algorithm to “convert” donor for generous giving. There are many superfluous words used in that article. And I can’t stop thinking,”what is the motivation \/ assumption used here?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Does it mean with AI is better than without AI? Better in what ways? A more dollars being generated? So is this merely a number game; the more the better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Knowing that AI is only available recently, does this mean that all prior to AI age is worse? By whose standard?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What if this is right (the number game is right, and the AI usage is right, for the end justifies the means)? What does it make us? A utilitarian? A very transactional and machine-like approach? Reminded me of my growing up learning about programming. It’s all about efficiencies, the shorter lines the better, the faster running the more supreme, and all measurement are metrics of different numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
One glimpse of sanity as if a ray of light shot me through a word of a friend. She said something very profound,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The least thing I can do to a person who is willing to spend money on my product is to answer the question.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
In essence, the metric is very different. It’s not about numbers. But it’s about human’s dignity. A respect to another human being, that I would not use machine to interact with another fellow person like me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I thank God that He thinks that way too. He could have sent His law (which He did) and demanded us to obey (He did). But ultimately He sent Jesus to live among us, and to relate to us as equals. More than that, Jesus died on our behalf, that we could be with God. That to me proves from God’s perspective the value of humanities, while we on the opposite spectrum, downgrading humanities and esteeming machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
