The question puzzles me, “why did God punish Eve and all women with so much pain in child-bearing? And why did God punish Adam and all men with much pain in working to earn a living?”<\/em> Both are the life-line of mankind existence, and the closest which we instinctively will draw meaning and identity in life. Out of all the punishments God could have inflicted for the disobedience, why did He chose this one?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Until I looked at the Cross, where the Son of God was hung. Out of all the possibilities, God has clearly confirmed, that there is no other way. The Cross, is the only way, for salvation of mankind. The Cross symbolises shame, defeat, death, pain, suffering to the max, and God chose that as the ultimate door for salvation.<\/p>\n

Then I began to see the pain in childbearing and work as related to God’s redemptive grace. It’s hard to understand God’s logic, if not impossible to understand God’s way. But when I look at the Cross, somehow I understood God’s answer to my question.<\/p>\n

It brought humility and new meaning to suffering. God is saying that He is God. His way is with the lowly. There is victory through defeat, salvation through suffering. Our pain and suffering by itself may seem meaningless. But in the light of the Cross, they give life to our lives. We’re reminded of who we are as His subjects. We acknowledge Him as God. And he is saving us from pride and from ourselves, less we forget and think we’re God.<\/p>\n
