One of memorable items that my dad left me.
\nThis prayer was written on small tablet, put in our living room.
\nA father’s prayer and a mother’s prayer.
\nBut somehow, the father’s prayer seems to connect better with me.
\nIt says as follow:<\/p>\n
Build me a son, O Lord,
\nwho will be strong enough to know when he is weak,
\nand brave enough to face himself when he is afraid;
\none who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,
\nand humble and gentle in victory. <\/p>\n
Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort,
\nbut under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.<\/p>\n
Here let him learn to stand up in the storm;
\nhere let him learn compassion for those who fail. <\/p>\n
Build me a son whose heart will be clear,
\nwhose goal will be high,
\na son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men,
\none who will reach into the future,
\nyet never forget the past. <\/p>\n
And, after all these things are his,
\ngive him, I pray, enough of a sense of humor,
\nso that he may always be serious,
\nyet never take himself too seriously. <\/p>\n
Give him humility,
\nso that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness,
\nthe open mind of true strength.
\nThen I, his father, will dare to whisper,
