Prayer of Jabez (2)

I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. ~ Luk 11:8

In NIV translation, it’s read as “shameless“. And as checked dictionary, impudence has meaning of being brazen, rude, disrespectful, bold…………

I wonder…really wonder, and deep troubled…does Jesus teaching us to be impudence towards God? I am afraid that i might come close to that conclusion.

The whole chapter if i may summarize, started with Jesus’ disciples ask him to teach them about prayer. And Jesus, did teach them. But as usual, he goes deeper. For it’s not the “what” that is matter most. But there’s something, which he explains using two parables:

1. The impudence request of a friend

2. The obvious request of a child

And if it’s true, my mind goes back to the story of Jabez. Didn’t he ask God with such impudence? I believe he would have cried out his heart to God. He would probably bang the gate of Heaven to be heard……..And God did hear and answer Him, and gave Him his request.

There’s something beautiful about impudence, probably it’s not pretentious; being bare, completely naked. And that attitude attracts God. As adult, we lose the part. While children could easily do it….without any pretense, just as it is….

It’s very easy to recite The Lord’s Prayer. Yet, it’s very hard to ask impudently. But, He desires and likes it. As it’s said,”he is not a tame lion”.
