Wisdom of God (2)

I read Tolkien’s book Children of Hurin……and i was troubled. It’s so dark….very different from his other works like the Hobbit & LOTR. But yesterday, i found out that he actually had a draft of his whole story….and interestingly in that final Battle, men was avenged justly.

I don’t know how to put it. But i feel it’s probably the same with our present life. There’re many things we don’t understand here, why certain things happened, or why bad things happened to good people. And rightly so, because we don’t see the whole story. We only read a small part of it. While i read only 1 book, which is a long chapter in Tolkien’s big book of Unfinished Tale. But actually he hid in his mind, the more complete whole story…….

I believe that the same with God and life. Only at the End, we would see the whole story. Of our short and temporary life here. And all will make sense. There’ll be no more questions when we read the whole story. For God is wise and good.

On this knowledge, I rest my life and my future and dreams. Bad fortunes may come, even a bad ending on this life if it must be. But in the light of eternity and God’s future, it’s all good and bright.

This song may capture well my mood and thought:

  • Jesus, I my cross have taken,
    All to leave and follow Thee;
    Destitute, despised, forsaken,
    Thou, from hence, my all shalt be.
    Perish every fond ambition,
    All I’ve sought, and hoped, and known;
    Yet how rich is my condition,
    God and Christ are still my own!
  • Let the world despise and leave me,
    They have left my Savior, too;
    Human hearts and looks deceive me;
    Thou art not, like man, untrue;
    And, while Thou shalt smile upon me,
    God of wisdom, love, and might,
    Foes may hate, and friends disown me;
    Show Thy face, and all is bright.
  • Man may trouble and distress me,
    ’Twill but drive me to Thy breast;
    Life with trials hard may press me,
    Christ will bring me sweeter rest.
    O ’tis not in grief to harm me,
    While Thy love is left to me;
    O ’twere not in joy to charm me,
    Were that joy unmixed with Thee.
  • Haste then on from grace to glory,
    Armed by faith and winged by prayer;
    God’s eternal day’s before thee,
    God’s own hand shall guide thee there.
    Soon shall close thy earthly mission,
    Swift shall pass thy pilgrim days,
    Hope shall change to glad fruition,
    Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.
