Perseverance

Tonight, I thank God once again for bringing into life good character in my girl’s life. I recognized that it’s purely the work of God in her life.

She is a competitive girl. She is obsessed with winning. And she could melt down if she lost. So tonight, we play the snake and ladder. The youngest girl, won the game very easily, while the rest of us struggling to go up the ladder.

Then, after a long struggle to finish, I got it there, bypassed my oldest girl. Left only her and my wife. So the two of them exchanging the dice. My oldest girl had been leading by far. She left only a few steps to win, but somehow she could not make it. The dice kept her getting the finish.

To make things worse, she got bitten by snake. And after few steps, my wife overtook her and won the game ahead of her. Naturally, she would melt down by this time.

But instead, she cheered herself up, and she continued the game. Wanted to know how many more steps she could throw to win the game.

Then after her bitter struggle, she was bitten by snake once again, brought her farther from finishing the game. And I thought if I were her, I would cry and reset the game, asking the game to forfeit, or rethrow the dice. But to my amazement, she continued the game. And by God’s grace, she finished the game, without crying.

What do I call that? I praised her for her persevering characteristic. To stick out the game and not giving up despite the odds. I was proud of her. And I hope she would remember the game and how she persevered. It’s not about who’s first. But to persevere till we finish. By luck, one could be the first. But it takes great perseverance to finish as the last person.
