Blessed

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ~Mat 5:13 (NIV)

Read My Utmost for His Highest this morning, and God reminded me how things really are. As humans, we celebrate our successes, glories, achievements, importance. We count blessings in terms of those values. They are not wrong, because that’s all in the Bible. God who celebrates victories, triumphs, success, good results, etc.

However, the Bible portrays another flip side of blessedness. That the absence of those things does not negate our blessed status in God. In fact true blessedness is more internal than external. Because in the absence of all good things, we’re still blessed. In poverty, hunger or thirst, afflicted or even persecuted, Jesus says we are blessed. Not that we have to seek sufferings in order to be blessed. But it shows our real status before God. In His sight, we’re blessed regardless our external.

We are blessed in His sight, because fallen and sinful human being, and Almighty God, the most powerful being in the entire universe, chose to love us and save us, sacrificed His own beloved Son. What could I say if not a tremendous blessedness, larger than anything ever and will happen in my entire life.

Whatever my status or circumstances today or tomorrow, may I always remember His sweet words, how blessed I am as His children.
